Nov 18 1972 – Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten died at the age of just 29 from a combination of Valium and alcohol. Neil Young misses him to this day. Danny had gotten caught up in heroin to the point he could no longer function effectively and was let go from Neil’s backing band. He was an incredible talent. Among his accomplishments – composing this classic, covered by Rod Stewart, Rita Coolidge and Everything But The Girl. Another song, Neil Young’s ‘The Needle And The Damage Done’ was written with Danny Whitten in mind.
