I feel more blessed than ever that I got see Rush on their R-40 tour last year. It was my first time seeing them and it will be the last.
A Rush fan for most of my life, I was either away in another town/city or just to broke to travel to see them.
Well today, guitarist Alex Lifeson has confirmed what many of us were believing may be true in the fact that Rush are in fact done touring.
Lifeson said it was the health of drummer Neil Peart..
“He didn’t even want to do the [R40 Tour], to be honest with you,” Lifeson explained. “It’s been increasingly difficult for him, but he committed to the tour and we got through it. As far as he was concerned, that was the end of touring.”
“His shoulders were hurting, his arms were hurting, his elbows, his feet, everything,” Lifeson added of Peart. “He didn’t want to play anything less than 100 percent. He was finding it increasingly difficult to hit that mark on this last tour. So, all those things combined, I get it. I’m disappointed and I think Geddy [Lee] is very disappointed and we’d love to continue this tour a little bit longer, but we’re off now.
They may do a one off show at some point and perhaps record again but who knows.
Since lead singer/bass player/synthesisor Geddy Lee and Alex still want to head out perhaps they will drop the Rush name and tour as Lee/Lifeson but that is me speculating.
As for Neil…Lets hope the pain isn’t so bad when he isn’t playing so he can raise his young daughter without the pain.
