It’s been just over a month now since Axl Rose (unfortunately) became the official lead singer in AC/DC after the departure of long time lead singer Brian Johnson due to his hearing problems. Johnson was told by his doctors that if he finished off the tour with AC/DC he probably be deaf at the end of it which is not something you want to be, especially when you’re the lead singer of a major band.
Another big reason for Johnson’s bad hearing comes from the cars that he drives, and when this beast in your daily driver, it’s easy to see why.
But the problems he’s having now, could be Winnipeg’s and Edmonton’s fault. Seriously.
Back in September of 2015 AC/DC played a show in the ‘Peg, where Johnson was having trouble hearing himself and was constantly having adjust the monitor in his ear, making it louder and louder and louder. Then at their next show in Edmonton it was cold and pouring rain out, and by the time the guys got to Vancouver for their next gig most of them were sick with fevers and stuff.
Johnson’s hearing was bad after the monitor issues from the Winnipeg concert, and got worse after the Edmonton show. Months later it never got better, so he eventually went to a specialist, which ended up being the specialist who told him his hearing was never going to get better and he should leave the band if he wants to continue hearing.
So there you go, the fact Axl Rose is currently in AC/DC and Brian Johnson is on the sidelines is Winnipeg and Edmonton’s fault.
More on the story from Rolling Stone here.
EDIT – Rolling Stone originally said that the rain in Winnipeg was a major issue, but it didn’t rain (too much) that show. The monitors that show started the hearing problems, and the rain in Edmonton made it worse.
