The Calgary Stampede parade is tomorrow morning.
It officially starts at 8:30 a.m., but if you don’t have reserved bleacher seats, you need to have your butt on the curb by 6:30 a.m.
Of all the facts about the parade – like it takes 6,300 steps to do the 5KM parade route – the most interesting one is this: “Be aware of the approximately two tons of manure that will be deposited on the parade route.” (There are 700 horses in the parade.)
TWO TONS OF MANURE.
That’s 4,000 pounds. So – that’s like having to shovel 23 Jeff Browns. (Give or take a few of him depending on how much he’s been drinking!)
But, Jeff (who’s lived on a farm at times during his life) thought there’d be much MUCH more manure.
Don’t forget that this year’s Stampede parade marshals are local musical icons Paul Brandt and Jann Arden. Together, they’re initials are PB&J … and so, the duo is hoping that parade-goers bring peanut butter and jam donations to the parade. If you’re not going to the parade, you can make the donations during Stampede at any local grocery store. All donations go to the Calgary Food Bank. – Sarah
