Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip performed their second – and last – show in Calgary on Wednesday night at the Dome.
The frontman, who came out this spring with the announcement that he has terminal brain cancer – apologizes for getting some lyrics wrong and then thanks Calgary for a wonderful stay in the city.
The Man Machine Poem Tour now moves to Winnipeg and then stops in Ontario: London, Toronto, Hamilton and the band’s hometown of Kingston.
Gord Downie’s doctor said this tour is creating much-needed awareness for brain cancer research and the money to fund it.
Dr. James Perry, a neuro-oncologist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute, said the Man Machine Poem Tour and the fundraising parties around it are like the ALS ice bucket challenge. – Sarah
