Corbyn Demchuck and his Beaumont Atom 1 teammates are Tyson Murray’s heroes.
Tyson and Calgary’s Lake Bonavista Breakers Atom 1 team played Beaumont in a tournament earlier this month at WinSport.
During the round robin game, Tyson broke his ankle.
He had surgery at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and, the very next day, was back at the arena to watch the gold-medal final between his Breakers and Beaumont.
The round robin game ended in a tie.
In the final, Beaumont won gold.
It could have been the end of the story – but it turned out to be just the beginning.
This week, Tyson got a package in the mail with a Get Well Soon card from Beaumont, a handwritten letter from captain Corbyn Demchuk – AND Corbyn’s GOLD MEDAL.
“Hi. I am Corbyn. Remember me, I was the guy who gave you a fist pump at the tournament in Calgary … I, in fact, I think your hockey team was really good, and I want you to keep my medal,” Corbyn wrote to Tyson.
“Remember: fake to left, then shoot low blocker side. And the most important part is having fun!“
Tyson’s mom Shara told The Jeff and Sarah how this simple gesture has stopped her son’s tears:
Jeff is a hockey dad and I’m a hockey mom and we know how much kids treasure their medals. So, we have a Jeff and Sarah medal for Corbyn as well as four tickets to go to an Oilers game in Edmonton – and pizzas for his team that they can have after a hard practice.
And, of course, we’ll send Tyson and his mom to an upcoming Calgary game at the Saddledome! – Sarah and Jeff
