With the start of the NHL April 12 playoffs inching closer and closer, the question must be asked: Are these Flames peaking just a bit too soon or ARE WE REALLY BRINGING HOME THE CUP??!
(With Saturday’s 3-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets, the Flames won their ninth straight game, which is the first time the team has won nine in a row since moving to Calgary from Atlanta in 1980. And with their 10th win Monday, they tied the franchise record set in Atlanta from Oct. 14 to Nov. 3, 1978.)
Here’s what Q107 Calgary listener Jason wonders: “Flames are on this roll at the wrong time… started about 12 games too early .. likely will lose the momentum a few games before the playoffs start, seen it before.”
It was just a few months ago that folks were calling for Glen Gulutzan’s head. Leave! Get a new coach! Bring back Bob Hartley!
And, we had that dry Johnny Gaudreau period when everyone was wondering what was wrong with our Lil Whiz Kid.
Right now, the Flames are fulfilling their season mission to make the post-season. And, let’s just say we go deep into the playoffs, make the Stanley Cup final, or WIN THE CUP. Will the team’s success mean a new arena sooner rather than later?
Up next? Three more home games:
- Rock the Boston Bruins Wed. March 15
- Destroy the Dallas Stars Friday, March 17
- Kick LA King’s butt Sunday, March 19
