Selling fake band merch is never cool, let’s be clear about that. But selling fake band merch and saying that a portion of the sale goes to fight brain cancer research, when it actually just goes to your own pocket? There’s a special place in hell for people like that.
Sadly though, that’s what happening with the Tragically Hip and the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research right now. Rob Baker, the guitarist for the Hip, put out a tweet the other day warning people about a couple of fake sellers online who say they donate money from every sale, but actually don’t.
Hey folks, there are a lot of THip Tshirts, hoodies…on the net, Instagram, Facebook…claiming that $10 goes to Gord Downie fund. It’s BS!

The scumbags selling the stuff called themselves “Gord Downie Supporters” on Facebook, but after Rob’s tweet they changed their name to “Prayers for Gord” but it looks like they took their page down. They’ve taken it down before though and it popped back up, so I wouldn’t be surprised if these assholes do it again.
If you want to buy any Hip merch and also have some of the money go to help fight brain cancer, make sure you’re buying it through the Hip’s website, and nowhere else.
