To celebrate Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary, Facebook is having some fun.
If you post the name of any of the Harry Potter houses – Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor or Ravenclaw – in a post of your own or in a comment, the name of the house will be displayed in colour, along with a wand that shoots out colourful zaps and stars. It also works if you post or comment the name Harry Potter.
Then, every time you click again on ‘Slytherin’ or one of the other houses in your Facebook post, the explosions happen again.
J.K. Rowling published Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on June 26, 1997 in the U.K. (It came out in North America as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone).
“Join us for the 2nd Annual Spend a Day in Kensington’s Diagon Alley.
This year will be bigger, better and more magical. We learned a lot from the event last year, and are working with the City of Calgary to ensure we can adequately support an event of this capacity this year.
On Sunday, July 30th we will transform the Kensington community into a wizarding world full of brilliant oddities.
There will be a Quidditch match taking place in the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association park. Enjoy watching the match and browsing the team’s official Quidditch merchandise.
Participate in the costume contest, drink butter beer on the patio, rock out near the music stage and more!
Prepare for a handful of surprises this year – we can’t wait for you to join us.”
