One of my favourite TV shows is Jennifer Lopez’s World of Dance.
Dancers of all ages from around the world are competing for a $ 1 million prize.
When Dancing With the Stars premiered back in 2005, I was addicted to it. Even now, I still PVR every episode and follow a few celebrities on their quest for the mirror ball trophy. I also dabbled in some So You Think You Can Dance.
But my new addiction is WOD.
Mari says her dance life started not at a pro studio, but in her parents dining room, dancing around to many of the great artists that Q107 Calgary also plays.
“I will always hold onto the fact that I am still that little girl in my parents dining room. Shuffling around with family on their long-time-gone 70’s brown carpet to Stevie Wonder, Prince, the Cure, the Clash… laughing and loving being alive through music and dance,” she wrote on her website.
Last week on World of Dance, Keone and Mari performed a piece on our addiction to cellphones and, one week later, I’m still thinking about it.
I live on my phone. Sometimes I’m on it to return work emails; sometimes I’m on it to listen to Q. And I use my phone to watch videos and take photos. But, every once in a while, (like when I’m out for a bike ride) I do put my phone down and my brain gets a rest.
Last summer, we went on vacation to Revelstoke, B.C., and I barely touched my phone; we were too busy biking, swimming and completing ropes courses. I left that very cool town feeling very relaxed, energized and healthy.
It seems every day, there are new studies out warning us of the dangers of living on our phones, but it was this 1:40 long Keone and Mari dance video that spoke to me the loudest.
(They also have other really fun dances too.)
Canadian dance duo Luka Milacic-Perusina and his dance partner Jenalyn Saraza-Pacheco are also in the competition. And half of KynTay is from Alberta. (They were eliminated from the show last week). – Sarah
