Jocelyn Alice has had one of those weeks.
The Calgary singer was psyched to perform O Canada at Tuesday’s MLB all-star baseball game in Miami.
“I really love my country’s anthem. LETS GO, #miami,” she tweeted from her account @iamjocelynalice.
So psyched, in fact, that during the performance she let out … a giggle.
And a new GATE – Gigglegate – was born.
Canadians lost their minds, calling Jocelyn Alice’s anthem of the worst of all time: “Special thanks to Jocelyn Alice for butchering the Canadian national anthem #AllStarGame.” Check out that comment and other reviews HERE.
It also appeared that Toronto Blue Jays slugger Justin Smoak (an American) gave her the stink eye.
Jocelyn Alice has responded to her critics with a two-part tweet, explaining just what happened exactly in Miami:
2/2 big screen and was overcome with excitement in that moment. I love my country. I am so proud to be Canadian.— Jocelyn Alice (@iamjocelynalice) July 12, 2017
You called The Jeff and Sarah Show with many other examples of anthems gone wrong. Many of you said there have been worse renditions of O Canada:
Now, the performance that gets the honour of being “the worst” anthem of all time always goes to Roseanne Barr, who absolutely ruined the Star Spangled Banner.
Whitney Houston is often credited with having the best rendition of the the Star Spangled Banner from her 1991 performance at Super Bowl XXV.
If Jocelyn Alice winds up looking for some solace out the Gigglegate debacle, she can find some empathy from our listener Chris, who called in to the Jeff and Sarah Show to say we should all be kind. We all make mistakes, right? – Sarah
