Some big Calgary Flames news: Forward Sam Bennett has been signed to a two-year deal.
It’s a two-year contract with annual average value of $1.95 million.
Bennett told Jock Wilson at our sister station 770 that he takes responsibility for not racking up as many points as he would have liked last season:
My absolute favourite thing about hockey season is the number of phone calls we get on The Jeff and Sarah Show from people who are infuriated that Jeff is the king of bandwagon jumping. He loves the Flames. Then, he remembers when he lived in Winnipeg and he loves the Jets. Then, the Predators become a Cinderella story and, all of a sudden, he’s a Nashville fan.
The one thing Jeff tries to maintain is that he hates the Leafs.
But lookie, lookie what I just found in my Facebook photos. A photo of Jeff Brown in a Toronto Maple Leafs hat from 2013.
Here are a few important upcoming Flames dates:
Flames preseason starts Sept. 18 versus Edmonton Oilers;
Flames first game is in Edmonton. They play the Oilers Wed. Oct. 4;
First home game is Sat. Oct. 7 versus Winnipeg Jets.
Tickets go on sale Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.
Last season, the Flames were eliminated from the first round of the Stanley Cup finals by the Anaheim Ducks. It was a four-game sweep.
This a big month for local hockey players and parents. From novice to midget players, athletes across the city are in the middle of hockey evaluations. Players skate multiple times – my son has 5 skates and then a full game – and eventually kids get placed a team. Most kids admit they’re very stressed this month. They want to make the best team they can and be with their friends. – Sarah
