ON PINK SHIRT DAY, let me tell you about JUNIOR DOLLY PARTON

Today is Pink Shirt Day - a day across the country that aims to end bullying.
I've been at home sick for two days, but as I sit on the couch watching daytime TV, I thought I'd share a story with you.
When I was a kid I was crazy athletic. I played on my school's volleyball, basketball and soccer teams and I could swim across our lake at my parents' cottage. But my favourite thing to do was run. I ran cross-country and, in Grade 5, I came first at our track and field meet in the 800-metre run. There was probably some natural talent there because I really didn't train very much. But I never took advantage of it, and I regret it all the time.
I was a sports kid.
But, then, the boobies hit.
In the summer after Grade 5, and ...
Why it was great to have my son in a Minnesota Wild jersey (for awhile)
1/22/2013 5:02:00 PM
When our son was learning to skate last year in Ontario, he was the only kid at practice in a Minnesota Wild jersey. There were a few Flames shirts and a Habs jersey, but mostly it was a sea of Maple Leafs.
We got this Wild jersey from somewhere – we actually don’t remember how it appeared in our closet – and so, my son, who was about four at the time, had goalie Manny Fernandez’s No. 35 on his back.
One week, instead of the Minnesota jersey, I brought a Leafs one that his older step-brother used to wear when he was also a little guy learning how to skate.
It was a little big, but I thought our son would think it was cool: It was like the other kids’ jerseys and it was his big brother’s – his idol who can do no wrong.
Skating started like every other week: The kids ...
Got balls? These pizza balls are delish!

We've had so much talk on the show recently about food (I need a signature dish to take to Jeff Woods' upcoming party and Jeff really screwed up his BBQ-ed ribs the other night) that I thought I'd share a delicious ballsy dinner we made last night. They were delicious - and your kids will love to make 'em.
I ripped this off the Internet, but it was super easy. (I'm also thinking you could stuff the balls with steak, carmelized onions and goat cheese, but that's getting fancy!)
**PIZZA BALLS! 3 cans Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits (10 per can), 56 pepperoni slices, block of Colby cheese, 1 beaten egg, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, Garlic powder, 1 jar pizza sauce…Cut the block of cheese into 28 squares. Flatten a biscuit out and stack pepperoni and cheese on top. Gather up the edges of the biscuit. Line up the rolls in a greased ...
Back-to-school basics: Pencil crayons, a perm & clean underwear
9/3/2012 7:53:00 PM
It puzzles me, now that I’m far too old for a first day of school, why I was always worried I’d forget my underwear on that big day.
As soon as I was old enough to print and make lists, I would make a long list on Labour Day weekend of all things I had to do when I woke up on Tuesday morning.
That big first day is so funny for kids: You try your best to look amazing because maybe, just maybe, this will be the year that Scott, the best dancer and soccer player in your school, will really notice you.
Forget the fact that he’s gone to school with you since kindergarten and known you for most of your life. Nope, this first day of Grade 6 is going to blow his socks off. Why? Because you got a perm. And new acid ...
Protect your pickles and peanut butter – kitchen dance parties inspire me to shake it

The Jeff and Sarah Show
Monday to Friday 5 to 9 a.m.
I’ll let you in on a little secret: I was supposed to be a dancer.
When I was four years old, I spent my free time dancing in my parents’ basement in a black leotard and pink tights. I’d place my stuffed animals on the front yard, let them sit there for a few minutes, and then go out front and – surprise, surprise – find an audience in my front yard waiting to be invited inside to see me dance.
The next year, my parents put me in tap and jazz lessons.
The year-end recital was the highlight of my young life. We did a Smurfs-themed tap routine. I had the most beautiful blue satin body suit with a bright blue tutu and a blue bow pinned in my hair. The jazz number had ...
