Q107: Calgary's Classic Rock Radio - The Morning Show Blog
Radiothon, Super Bowl and The Olympics
Posted 2/8/2010 9:20:00 AM
Back to blogging to start the new week. And I thought I would just cover some random thoughts to kick off the new week. The week leading up to the Family day long weekend!

First, I want to start by thanking you and everyone who was involved in our Caring for Kids Radiothon that wrapped up on Friday night. They were still counting when I left on Friday night. But by the end of our broadcast the total was equal to last year's donation total. In the economy that hampered so many in the last 12 months, with Christmas bills just coming due and with so many folks giving to the Haitian charities, I was absolutely stunned by the generosity we were shown. The hospital is and should be a great source of pride for Calgarians and Albertans and they responded with such generosity, it lifted the spirits of all who were associated with the event. To say nothing of what you've done for the kids. Thanks you so much.

The Super Bowl commericals this year had their moments but by and large, I thought, were a little underwhelming. There were some moments I loved but none more than the quick 15 second promo that David Letterman put together with his (I thought) nemesis, Jay Leno. See it and the cool story of how it came together here

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the Fraser Valley visiting my little brother and I was really surprised by the negativity surrounding the arrival of the Olympic games. I'm hoping this week that pall is starting to lift. After all, the games are a Canadian presentation and will reflect the good will of the country. And while I know having the games in any city can be and is often controversial, once they arrive, I'm hoping everyone smiles and catches the Olympic spirit. And if you want to know how beneficial they can be for a city, just ask anyone who lives in Calgary today. Whether skating on the Oval (which I love) or driving by COP, the legacy and good feelings of hosting the games linger still here. And if thats not enough, get a load of this report on Vancouver that appeared on NBC news this weekend. It's like a video brochure for Vancouver and the country: click here

And just for fun, there's a new time waster thats found it's way to the internet and the world of travel. Its called bed jumping, and it is, apparently, all the rage. It's kind of harmless fun and cool to look at.

That's it from here. Have a good week. Check in again this week for more ramblings.

Cheers

TD
