New safety measures have been unveiled at the Alberta Children's Hospital as a way to improve patient safety in the wake of several medication errors over the past year.
None of the incidents were fatal, but an independent review was launched by Alberta Health Services.
New initiatives include the development of standardized procedures for tracing and labeling all infusion lines, having clinical nurse educators spend more time with new staff to ensure proper routines are imposed, and implementing safety teams on each patient care unit.
