Much-maligned over the process that got it built, the number of Calgarians using the Peace Bridge is exceeding projections. Numbers, according to Alderman Druh Farrell, a staunch supporter of the project says trips on the bridge, are up 40 per cent from early counts when the bridge first opened in late-March. She says there are 6,100 pedestrian and cyclist trips per day on the Calatrava structure. The project has had a rough ride over the bureaucratic process to approve the $25-million bridge which included sole sourcing the architecture to the famed Spaniard. Farrell says it's become an unexpected destination for buskers as well as photo settings, like weddings and graduations.
