With the threat of a possible flash flood, the City of Quesnel, B.C. declares a state of local emergency.

The City of Quesnel has declared a state of local emergency over fears of a possible flash flood.

Residents are being urged to stay away from Baker Creek until further notice.

Flow on the creek has been reduced by close to 70% over the past few days.. creating a risk of a potential flash flood.

This after a landslide near the Pinnacles Provincial Park created a blockage and backed up water to a over 3 metres in depth. 

Officials say If the blockage is breached, the city will be hit with about 25 cubic metres per second of water.

The City of Quesnel, located 114 kilometres south of Prince George, B.C.

The state of emergency will remain in effect until at least Monday morning.
