Congratulations and well done to the over 1700 cyclists who took part in the inaugural Ride to Conquer Cancer. Over $6.7million was raised for the Alberta Cancer Foundation and by all accounts every aspect of the weekend was a phenomenal success.

I never thought this would be something I could complete, but like so many others discovered this weekend, the 200km bike ride was one of the very best highlights of the summer. Earlier this morning on the radio program, I spoke with Ron from Ridleys Cycle in Kensington... While the great cause of Cancer Research in Alberta is a strong motiviation to get on a bike this weekend, there are also plenty of reasons to reacquaint yourself with your inner Lance ...

Tour De Basement Stage 1

Ancient Cycling Blog Proverb…

On Saturday afternoon, the Ipod lasted for about 10minutes before it was replaced with television. I caught the 3rd period of the Habs/Leafs game, I also made a mental note-to-self that next item I hit the bike and hockey is on… make sure I’ve looked at the schedule so I can watch the Calgary Flames or at least two teams in the West. Boredom is not exactly a repellent when it comes to watching an insignificant Eastern Conference matchup!

While boredom is a common denominator of many off season training programs, I've quickly learned that the exact opposite reaction can be said for completing another "stage" of my Tour de Basement. Yesterday I brought home my new Trek Bike from Ridley’s Cycle. Regardless of age, there is something really quite special about getting a new bike.

Much like getting fitted for a ski or snowboard boot , there’s no sense in making a bike purchase if you aren’t ever going to be comfortable using it. Ron spent a good hour going through bike measurements, using strange looking rulers to determine the exact angle of the bend in my knee as well as the distance between my elbow and hands. Those measurements would then translate into minor adjustments on the bike. We also tweaked the handle bars and the angle of the saddle so that the distribution of weight between my butt and my hands on the handlebars were even

Being completely new to riding a road bike, I had no idea that ...
